Sardinia

The great island of Sardinia is one of Italy’s jewels. It’s well known all around the world owing to its wonderful landscapes, to its clean and unforgettable sea and also to its tasty and simple typical dishes. Sardinia is situated in the middle of the mediterranean sea and during the centuries it was mastered by different peoples: Phoenicians, Romans, and so on. The island has numerous natural beauties: long fine grained sandy beaches, calcareous cliffs on a deeply azure sea. Grottos are another picturesque element of the island’s natural environment. Over 600000 hectares of Sardinia’s territory are under environmental protection, in fact there are on the island 3 national parks, 8 regional parks and many natural reserves with show the high degree of protection public entities give to this matchless land. The natural sardinian wealth joins historical and cultural one represented by many archaelogical sites.

Sardinian people are known for their spontaneous hospitality and their warmth to everyone.

Nature
Sardinia’s natural richness is proverbial: the island owns true treasures: the sea is one of the cleanest of the world, and as we said there are many stupendous grottos which enchant visitors. The natural landscape alternates mountains with a suggestive shape with places covered by macchia mediterranea (mediterranean maquis), which is the place’s vegetation.

Regional cuisine
Sardinia’s kitchen is based on very simple ingredients coming from pastoral and peasant tradition and from fisherman’s one on the coasts. Wild boar’s hams and Irgoli’s sausages (made of pig meat) are very appreciated as “antipasti” (hors-d’oeuvre). The sardinian pecorino (made of sheep’s milk) cheese is one of the most popular specialities . Also wines are worthy of note: the strong red ones such as Cannonau, Monica, Carignano and Girò and the grateful white ones: Malvasia, Torbato, Vernaccia, etc.
