The
unique centre of the Basilicata that leans out
on the Tyrrhenian Sea, Maratea is situated to
the centre of a coastal band of extraordinary
beauty: the Coast of Maratea extends for around
32 km of inlets, beaches, rock-cliffs, shoals,
rocks to precipice on a sea from the intense
blue colour, splendid accessible caves only from
the sea.
The luxuriant vegetation is characterized by
olive trees, carob tree, myrtle, maritime pines,
that surrender the place to woods of oaks and
chestnut trees in the immediate hinterland. The
uncontaminated landscape and a sea, one of the
cleanest of Italy, have made of Maratea a known
tourist place.
Of the territory of Maratea make part five
fractions coastlines endowed with famous bathing
stations: Castrocucco, Marina, Fiumicello,
Cersuta and Acquafredda. The harbour, ancient
centre of connection of Maratea with the rest of
the world, is today a embarkation point but also
a suggestive place of meeting for the tourists.
